A monk set off on a long pilgrimage to find the Buddha and Enlightenment. He devoted many years to his search until he finally reached the land where the Buddha was said to live. While crossing the river to this country, the monk looked around as the boatman rowed. He noticed something floating towards them. As it got closer, he realized that it was the corpse of a person.
When it drifted so close that he could almost touch it, he suddenly recognized the dead body - it was his own!
He lost all control and wailed at the sight of himself, still and lifeless, drifting along the river's currents. That moment was the beginning of his liberation.

A wonderful and very compelling Zen story that hits close to the bone.
Thank you, dear Bhai :)
Ya Haqq!
Interesting story!
remind me the song " bichar kori chaiya dekhi sokol e ami"
till the self awareness comes we are all dead people .are not we?
thank you all. :)
rabu, thats a good reminder.
shree,
so true! till self-awareness, we r really all dead. Prophet Muhammad, upon him be God's love said, human life is a dream, only in death we wakeup. paradoxically we r dead until we die!
very intresting story and a profound thought by shree

Muchas gracias por este hermoso relato...
En verdad que sin "la Muerte Mística", no hay verdadera purificación y crecimiento interior..., pero es necesario hacerlo "despierto", no se puede "Morir" en el sueño...
