Rememberance from Quranic Wisdom

(The righteous are those) who feed the poor, the orphan …

for the love of God, saying:

'We feed you for the sake of God alone;

we seek from you neither reward nor thanks.'

- The Holy Quran, 76:8-9

What is very beautiful about this verse is that the pure intention has been made clear here. It describes the characteristics of righteous behavior that one should help not to recieve thanks nor rewards, but to help for the sake of God alone.

This attitude is very important. Otherwise we may find ourselves caught in the attachment of selfish and self-centered help that seeks reward in terms of publicity, outward thanking and showiness.

  3. Holy is the word of God, in it all perfection is found.
    a very blessed teaching indeed. How much closer to the nature of God can we become than when we give what we have only for the sake of Gods compassion.

  5. In Jewish tradition, it's considered better to give anonymously, ie. the beneficiary does not know who you are: this way the expectation of gratitude is removed. But the very highest form of charity is considered giving someone the means to help themselves.
